There are many factors when deciding how to treat a particular scar. One of the biggest factors is the type of scar being treated, a hypertrophic scar may need to be treated completely differently from a depressed ice-pick scar. Another factor would be the color of the scar, if it is a red scar a laser could be effective at drastically reducing the scar's appearance, but a laser may not be as effective when trying to remove a white scar.
